 PENTAGON PEACE MEDITATION

12:00 – 12:05 PM EST Each Day and Fridays from 3 – 3:20 PM

The peace workers at the US Pentagon need our support. Many people believe that freedom and justice can better be served through means other than bombing which is certain to cause the deaths of more innocent people. There is a debate between the Pentagon leadership and the State Department about how the US is conducting the current war against terrorism. The Pentagon is generally taking a hawkish view while State is promoting a more diplomatic approach. But there are also many within the Pentagon who favor a peaceful resolution to this conflict.

We can help the Pentagon peace workers and strengthen the soul of America by simply tuning in together at the same time each day and meditating on world peace. Where peace is felt there can be no fear. As fear is diminished the urge to strike back violently will be lessened. Then we will come to use more intelligent and humane means to deal with the present challenge.

The time 12 to 12:05 PM falls within the True Noon hour in Washington, New York and other locations on the east coast of the US. This is one of the eight daily canonical hours, times of day when prayers are most effective. This is a good time for lighting a candle with an intention for world peace. Or we might just pause from what we’re doing for 5 minutes and tune into the Pentagon with an intention to strengthen the cause of peace.

Setting a watch alarm for 12 noon will ensure remembering to do this. Others around the world may tune in with us here in the US at 12 noon EST (5PM GMT) or, alternatively, begin a meditation with intention for world peace at 12 noon local time.

PEACE MEDITATIONS AT THE PENTAGON AND THE SPIRITUAL DEFENSE INITIATIVE (SDI)

The Pentagon Center for Ministry in Room 3A1054 has a meditation room open during normal duty hours for personal prayer or contemplation.

Every Friday afternoon at 3 PM there is a Pentagon Peace Meditation organized by Pentagon workers. It would be great if we could all join them there in spirit.

Here are verbatim excerpts from a booklet published by the Pentagon Meditation Club:

HELP BUILD A PEACE-MAKING SHIELD AROUND YOURSELF & THE PLANET

The Peace Shield Meditation/Prayer Campaign is a spiritual program. It starts by creating a “treaty” between participating individuals as a way of healing and bringing harmony. It then extends what modern physics would call a “unified force field” out from the individual into their community, the nation, and ultimately, the world.

This produces what we call the “Peace Shield” effect.

The concept is the modern application of a very ancient prayer tradition. Christians, Hebrews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, American Indians and others have all used this meditative process to center themselves and transform their societies. Now we are trying to do this on a global scale, starting with individuals like yourself.

Page 3:

Here’s How to Do It:

Sit comfortably, begin by taking a few deep breaths. Imagine air entering the lungs and center your awareness in your heart. Allow any thoughts or feelings that come to you to pass effortlessly from your mind without judging, resisting or dwelling on them.

Why Do It?

The Peace Shield Meditation is the simplest of techniques; it can be a powerful ally in solving the most complex of problems. Steps 1 and 3 (below) are merely suggested visualizations to prepare for and conclude the meditation (step 2). A few moments’ meditation on the Holy Word (step 2) can help in times of pain or discomfort. Meditating 10 to 30 minutes in the morning and evening regularly can release stress; providing deep rest and inner peace. As you heal yourself, your thoughts have the “ripple effect” of healing your family, your community and your World.

THE PROCESS

Step 1 – Repeat the following words mentally, pausing after each sentence, while closing your eyes:

“I direct my thoughts to the world of my inner being … I forgive myself for all my perceived wrong-doing to myself and to others … I ask for grace to experience my true nature, the God within me, love … I am a being of love … I am light … Deep within myself I am peaceful … Now, I experience the silence within me as I use the Holy Word, God’s name to quiet my mind and free me …”

Step 2 – With eyes closed, mentally repeat for a period of time that seems right to you, your favorite name of God (or Creator, Source, the Universe, etc.). You might select from: JESUS, or ADONAI (YHWH), or JEHOVAH, or ALLAH, or RAM, or BRAHMAN, or SATNAAM, or RADHA-KRISNA, or BAHA’U’LLAH, or AUM (OM) or GREAT SPIRIT, or any other name you have for God.

Step 3 – Repeat the following, again pausing after each sentence to close your eyes:

“Gently and with love and gratefulness for the Divine Presence within me, I take a moment or two after repeating the WORD to visualize myself happy and peace … I feel into that place within me that yearns to love myself and other people more … I see my family, friends, men, women and children throughout the world in harmony with each other … I see influential leaders turning to God for direction and guidance … I see world leaders, friends, and adversaries, joining together in fellowship to resolve issues, forgiving each other, and praying together and for each other …”

- (Thank you for your contribution to World Peace) -

THE PEACE SHIELD CAMPAIGN

General Douglas MacArthur:

“People since the beginning of time have sought peace … Military alliances, balances of power, leagues of nations, all in turn have failed, leaving the only path to be the crucible of war … We have had our last chance. If we do not now devise some greater and more equitable system, Armageddon will be at our door. The problem is basically theological and involves a spiritual recrudescence and improvement of human character that will synchronize with our almost matchless advances in science, art, literature and all material and cultural developments of the past two thousand years. It must me of the spirit, if we are to save the flesh.”

March to the beat of a different drum.

Listen to the call of silent bugles.

Join the network of children, women and men – warriors of the Heart – committed to attaining the highest ideals of society through a balanced program of meditation, prayer, and positive action.

TO BE ALL YOU CAN BE, PRACTICE “BEING” - PRACTICE THE PEACE SHIELD MEDITATION / PRAYER

For Your Information: A short walk from the National Military Command Center is the Pentagon’s spiritual command post – a meditation room. The Pentagon Meditation Club uses this “consciousness accelerator” regularly.
